LAST PHOTO:

This photo has only recently surfaced, the story go's that Paul Goresh the fan who took the last photo's of John as he was leaving the Dakota on Decemeber 8th had one photo that didnt come out, i think the flash may have failed, but recently with the advent of Photoshop programs someone had a play around with the photo and was able to bring out John's image, being a bit of an expert (he say's humbley) on John in 1980 i'm almost 100% certain that this photo actually is from the late afternoon of December the 8th.

  • Thanks, Tammy. The clothes and the hair look right for 12/8/80. He had just gotten his hair cut in that 50's style that day and it looks like he has on the leather "ruffian" jacket and the dark sweater. Still hard to believe after all these years...

  • Thanks for the incredible photo of John. Shocking, sad, exhilirating, interesting - just everything that John was. I miss him.

  • Hey I'm no expert on John 1980 photos and I know you know your stuff, but there is a square cut 'n paste line around John that bothers me about this new pic. Focus on the lower neck line of his shirt, it just disappears in a square line. It may well be that this was a select box which had extra cleaning up done in that space.

Also why is there no natural light if it's taken late afternoon? Does that pose of John (remember it may be rotated or mirrored) appear in any other known photo?? All the Gamma correction and filtering I've done in Photoshop and PaintShopPro never leaves the amount of "rubbish" which worries me as to what its true purpose is - to cover up a fake? I'd like to see the original un-molested print to see for myself.

  • If I'm not mistaken, I saw an interview last year with Goresh where he talked about this specific picture. He said that as John got into the car to go to the recording studio (after signing MDC's album), John turned toward Goresh just as he snapped one last picture ... and I'm pretty sure he said he wished the picture had turned out because John looked very peaceful at that moment. If this is that picture, then I certainly agree - its a thought-provoking shot about what might have been. Thanks for sharing as usual.

  • Tammy,
I have obtained a poor B&W copy of Paul Goresh's photo #2 from 12/8/80. If you're interested I'll send it to you - just tell me where and how. It looks to be the genuine item - hair & clothes are correct and he has a pen and some papers in his hands after he signed the LP. His expression seems to ask "is that all you want?" Hopefully you'll get this post sooner than later.

  • This photo of John Lennon was NOT taken on the 8th of December, but the 6th.The reason is there are pictures taken of him on Saturday the 6th when he gave a BBC interview that night. There's even a book called LENNON BBC tapes with him & Yoko on the cover. His hair looks exactly like this one(sort of a mullet look of the mid 80's).Also in Paul Goresh's photo of him signing the autograph LP,his hair in the front is much shorter then this photo, because it was documented that he woke up on the 8th early to get his hair cut.So once again THIS photo was taken Saturday night on the 6th of December.
